Wayne Arthur Lister was born January 11th, 1953 to Aubrey and Thelma Lister. He resided in beautiful Pensacola Florida his entire life. He attended Saint Stephens and Catholic High School with his older brother and best friend Joe, where he developed a love for playing baseball and football.
Wayne’s first daughter April was born to him in 1974. His son Christopher was born in July of 1976. Wayne met the love of his life, Sherry Devine in 1978. They were married 4 years later, and together their life began. Their daughter Isis was born to them in July of 1985. He worked on a shrimp boat off the coast of Louisiana for a few years, until he began his career as a supervisor for Escambia County Utilities Authority from which he retired after 39 years.
Wayne had a passion for firearms, a love and appreciation which he proudly passed onto his son, daughter and grandson. He immensely enjoyed deer hunting in North Florida as well as Southeast Alabama. He loved mullet, and was a professional at cast-net fishing for them. He was the ultimate protector and provider for his family. Though he was an absolute man’s man, his biggest passion was his love for Jesus. He told every person he met about his Savior and the story of how he came to know the Lord.
Wayne always gave great advice and a listening ear to anyone who needed it. He had a tremendous sense of humor and a laugh that was contagious. He was a down to earth person, and truly had the gift of making people feel welcomed and at ease. He would always reassure people that “everything’s going to be okay!” and was known for many silly phrases and quotes that will live on in our hearts forever. Two of our most favorite things which come to mind are these that he would say to someone before he departed them, “If I don’t see you again, I’ll see you in Heaven!” and “Have a blessed day!”
Wayne is undoubtedly dancing on the streets of gold in Heaven, awaiting his wife Sherry, brother Joe,son Chris, daughters April and Isis, Granddaughters Anna 14, Jamie 11 and Trinity 5, Grandsons Christian 10 and Jaxson 3, nephews JoJo, Brian and Michael, Nieces Keli Beans and Alexia, Gandy the wonder dog 13, and many more cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews to be reunited with him one day. He will be forever loved and missed but will remain alive and well in our hearts for eternity. We love you Wayne!
