Bonnie Kay Ellis went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2026. Born on July 16, 1949 in Chariton, Iowa. Bonnie was the second child of three, born of Melvin and Maxine Brown of Chariton.

Bonnie's early life in Chariton was busy with her horse (American Saddle), swimming (Catalinas), Rainbow Club (Worthy Adviser), MYF, and band (flute). She lived a happy and fun time growing up in that wonderful community.

After high school she attended Drake University and married her husband of 57 years Mitch Ellis. They had 2 children Trevor (Amy), and Michelle. Her 5 grandchildren include Samantha (Scott), Nick, Joe, Austin, and Autumn. Also, Bonnie had 2 great-grandsons. Sutton (Nick's) and Callum (Samantha's). Bonnie brought tenderness and joy into their lives and loved them all deeply. Her mom and dad, brother Dennis and sister Barb preceded her in death.

Bonnie became a realtor in 1975 and was very successful until her retirement and move to Florida in 2008. Her entire career time was spent with one company, Iowa Realty, where she made many friends & lasting relationships. A highlight was her finding the land in West Des Moines where the new West Des Moines Christian Church is built.

She was a shining light and warm loving woman who loved God and all those around her. She will be deeply missed.

A memorial service and reception will be held at West Des Moines Christian Church on July 16th @ 10:30 AM with lunch to follow. The church is at 4501 George Mills Parkway, W. Des Moines, IA 50265.
