Brenda Kay Fitzgerald passed away December 11th in Pensacola FL. She Courageously fought multiple health issues over the past year.
Brenda’s career started in the early 1970’s working as an EKG technician, Respiratory care technician, EMT, private duty nurse and finally as a CNA.
She met her future husband Michael, in a rehabilitation center in Ashville, NC in 1980 and were married in Pensacola in 1982. They spent 43 wonderful years together beginning with Michael’s return to the Navy in hopes of a better and more exciting life experience. With children on board, and assignments took them to Japan, Guam, Spain, Iceland, Florida and Virginia. While in Europe, Brenda worked as a travel agent and tour guide taking guided tours to Africa, Gibraltar and Portugal. During their last tour in Virginia, Brenda decided to go back to school this time to earn her Nationally recognized Certified Medical Assistants degree. Finishing not only top in her class, but all the other degree programs at Tidewater Tech which earned her the State recognized McCloud award for excellence. After military retirement in 1999, they moved back to North Carolina for 15 years before finally retiring to their dream location along the emerald coast to enjoy beach life and gardening. That dream location is now void of the laughter and joy it once had as we are now left with sorrow, which is so easy to express yet so hard to tell.
Brenda leaves behind husband Michael, daughter Angela of the home and son Thomas of Old Fort, NC, a brother John Drake and wife Rosanna of Ashville, granddaughter Patty Agan and Family of Boone, NC and several grandchildren and great grandchildren and besties , Tara Pagano and family of Denver, CO, Holy McTaggart of Arden, NC, Ruth Asher Phillips of Virginia Beach along with scores of friends scattered around the world.
