Charles Terry Hancock Jr. is also affectionately known as Big Charlie, Charlie Brown, FookinChooky, Vapor00, La Arana Blanca and simply Chuck, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the age of 51 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He faced his illness with the same stubborn determination that shaped his entire life - refusing to back down, refusing to lose his sense of humor, and absolutely refusing to let anyone feel sorry for him. His independent spirit had a zest for life, always living it to the fullest, enrapturing the adage "what value is life that can't be mourned?" He could often be found on the volleyball court, the soccer field, tinkering under a car or truck, traveling, channeling his Louisiana roots in the great outdoors, working out, running/biking in races throughout New Orleans, jamming out to music, dancing around a bonfire, boiling crawfish, grilling, cooking and laughing with his family.
Originally born in Thibodaux, Louisiana, he was a proud Metry native most of his life. He honorably served in the United States Air Force for twenty years which landed him in various cities around the world ultimately planting him in Pensacola where he met his wife, Deana. Though he packed a lot of life in his short 51 years and accomplished many things, his proudest accomplishments and greatest pride and joy were his children.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Hancock and his Stepfather, Larry "Buddy" Haw.
He is survived by his Mother, Cynthia Haw; his wife, Deana Hancock; children Charles Hancock III (Haley), Logan Terranova (Ross), Peyton Hancock (Megan), Bailey Benner, Landon Pickrell and Chesney Pickrell; sisters, Lisa Haw (Raymond) and Anne Reed (Robert); grandson, Wes Hancock; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor a man who served his country with pride, lived on his own terms, and kept everyone laughing with his one-of-a-kind sense of humor. A Celebration of His Life will be held from 11am - 2pm on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Flounder's Chowder House, 800 Quietwater Beach Rd, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations to be made to the Veterans of America or American Cancer Society.
