David Timmons Shirley, 66, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on April 6th 2026 after a 2 year battle with glioblastoma, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 30th, 1959 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Jerry C and June (née Phares) Shirley. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1981 with a degree in Geology (remaining a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide) and later earned his MBA. He served as a Naval Flight Officer aboard the P3 Orion, and was stationed in Adak (Alaska,) Diego Garcia and the Phillipines before ending up in Hawaii, where he met his beloved wife Carol. They were married in 1988 in Buffalo Grove, Illinois and moved to Pensacola in 1990. He finished up his career in Naval Intelligence.
He spent the bulk of his post-Navy career representing countless clients as a Social Security Disability Advocate. Later in life he pursued a new avenue - acquiring his license as a General Contractor, and going into business with his 2 sons. In 2023, Dave was baptized into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil. Dave loved his family dearly, and was known for his strong sense of direction - both in life and in spirit - and for his exceptional time management skills. David approached life with purpose, discipline, and a steady presence.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol Shirley (née Zottmann,) their 2 sons Eric (Kristina) and Alex (Randi) Shirley, both of Pensacola, 2 grandsons, Kai Shirley and Tate Shirley and his brother Brad Shirley. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Shirley, his sister Sandy Logan, and his parents. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of strength, guidance, and an unwavering dedication that will continue to live on through those he loved.
