Dr. Jean-Ellen Dorsey Giblin, 84, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Pensacola, Florida. A distinguished economist and dedicated educator, she leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence and cultural engagement.
Born on April 23, 1941, in Annapolis, Maryland, Dr. Giblin was the daughter of E. Thomas Dorsey and Eleanor M. Dorsey. Her early academic promise led her to the University of Rhode Island, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with Honors. She continued her studies at Columbia University Graduate Faculties, receiving a Master’s Degree in Economics before completing her Ph.D. in Economics at The New School in New York City.
Dr. Giblin dedicated a significant portion of her professional life to higher education. She served as a Professor of Economics at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey, and later as a Professor of Economics and International Trade at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City. Her leadership and vision were further recognized when she was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs at FIT, where she played a pivotal role in shaping academic policy and fostering institutional growth.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Giblin was deeply involved in the cultural life of her community. In Pensacola, Florida, she was a proud sponsor of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra and an active member of its Guild. She also participated in the Nomads, a women’s international discussion group that reflected her enduring interest in global affairs and intellectual exchange.
Dr. Giblin is survived by her husband, Jerome Gordon, and her daughter, Eleanor Louise Giblin.
Her contributions to academia and the arts will be remembered with admiration and gratitude. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
