Emmett Baxter Obituary

Born to A.O. and Lucille Baxter on May 1, 1931, Scott will be remembered as loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Scott is survived by his wife Mary Ann, their sons Michael and David, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Raised in Avondale, Georgia, in his early years Scott was an active member of the Midway Heights community and his church – Belvedere Methodist Church. He was a founding member of the Midway Heights Little League program in Decatur, Georgia, and managed a major league team for many years.

A life-long University of Georgia Bulldog fan, Scott worked for more than 45-years with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper as a retail advertising salesman. He served his nation and his state as a Military Police Sergeant in the Georgia National Guard throughout the 1950s.

Scott was not only an influential role model for his own sons, but over the years continued to work as a mentor to many other young men through youth baseball, scouting and various school programs.

Before retiring to Ft. Walton Beach, Scott was an active in local politics and a member of the Cumming First United Methodist Church in Cumming, Georgia.

The family would like to thank the men and women at the Brookdale Senior Living and Memory Care facility in Sandestin, Florida for their kindness and loving care given to Scott over the past several years. You are appreciated.

A parting message from Scott’s great-granddaughter, Abbygail reads . . . “Go Dawgs Forever! Every game will be in your memory. I love you and will forever think of you.”

At Scott’s request there will be no formal funeral services. Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed online at www.family-funeral.com.
