James P. "Jim" Hylton died peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, at age 74. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Judy; his sister, Ellan; his cat, Baby, whom he adored; as well as many other relatives and friends. 

Jim graduated from Florida State University, earning both a BA and MA in English and Drama. He then taught in those areas both in the U.S. and internationally in China, Pakistan, Bahrain, Singapore, Egypt, and Guatemala. During his career he wrote and/or directed multiple plays for student productions and authored a number of short stories. He also loved cooking, fishing, hunting and FSU Football. 

At his request, there will be no funeral services.
