James Lewis Lawson, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Pensacola.

 

Born in Palm Beach, James was raised in DeFuniak Springs and later made Pensacola his home beginning in 1981.

 

James proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 aboard the USS Forrestal. Following his military service, he dedicated 35 years of his career to Eastern Air Lines until 1989.

 

Above all, James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family man who deeply loved those closest to him.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas Woodford Lawson and Mary Gillon Downie Lawson; his beloved wife, Cecilia Ann Lawson; and his brother, Paul Andrew Lawson.

 

James is survived by his daughter, Susan Lynn Popovich; son-in-law, John Popovich Jr.; grandson, Roman Aiden Popovich; son, Scott Woodford Lawson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Family Funeral & Cremation, located at 5627 North Davis Highway, Pensacola, Florida 32503.

 

James will be laid to rest beside his wife, Cecilia Ann Lawson, at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, Virginia.

 

He will be remembered for his service, dedication, strength, and love for his family.
