James "Jimmy" Downs, known affectionately by friends and family as "Jimmy Dean," passed away on April 4, 2026, in Pensacola, Florida at the age of 43. Born on November 24, 1982, at Clark Air Base in the Philippines, Jimmy was a proud "military brat" whose journey eventually led him to the Shalimar and Fort Walton area.
A man of immense character and charisma, Jimmy never met a stranger he couldn't turn into a friend. He was a beacon of light in a dark world, always rooting for the underdog and lifting others up. Once Jimmy decided he loved you, he became your fiercest supporter and a permanent fixture in your corner. His heart was, quite simply, the biggest part of him.
Jimmy's passions were as vibrant as his personality. A lifelong "major sports fan," he carried the pride of the 1996 Meigs Middle School County Championship with him forever -never letting anyone forget his days as a Wildcat or as a Choctawhatchee Indian football player. He turned that passion into a voice for the community, recently hosting a sports radio show where he shared his love for the game and his unwavering loyalty to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. By trade, Jimmy spent much of his life as a cook, a profession that suited his spirit of service and his desire to nourish those around him.
Above all else, Jimmy's greatest accomplishment and deepest joy was his role as a father, pawpaw and uncle. He lived for his children and extended family, considering the bond of "bonus" and stepchildren just as sacred as his own. He was foundational pillar in his sister's home, helping to raise her children with the same fierce love he gave his own.
Jimmy is survived by the absolute love of his life, Skye Cliburn; children, Xavier White, Jailyn Downs, Wynter Downs, Naji White and Kyla Downs; granddaughter JaiDora White; stepdaughter Dominica White; bonus children, Terrell Holman, Jr. and Nala Lewis. He leaves behind his devoted parents, Fred and Miraflor Downs, sister and best friend Cheryl Singleton and his cherished nieces and nephews, Soleil, Matea, Herman Jr., Damarion, Zayne, and Ariana. He is also survived by Senisa Irvin and Ashley Bledsoe, with whom he shared his children and many years of life.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Mary Downs and his cousin Danielle Downs, all of whom he loved dearly and is now reunited in peace.
In accordance with his wishes, Jimmy will be cremated. The family is currently planning a Celebration of Life, a graveside service, and a traditional 40th Day ceremony to honor his Filipino heritage and the completion of his journey. Specific details for these services will be shared by the family as they are finalized.
