Michael James Knab, a beloved husband, father, grandpa and brother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 21, 2025, at the age of 71.
Michael lived a life defined by love, integrity, and quiet strength. He was a man who showed up—always—for his family, leading by example through kindness, hard work, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Born on September 8, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended the Universidad de las Américas in Puebla, Mexico, where his primary focus was anthropology. He later graduated from the University of New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in business.
In his professional life, he founded Coastal Espresso and worked for the Taylor Company. His deep knowledge of the restaurant industry, strong work ethic, unwavering dedication, and genuine kindness transformed client relationships into lasting friendships throughout the Florida Gulf Coast.
Some of our most cherished memories are the quiet ones—conversations, shared laughter, and moments when he simply showed up when we needed him most. He had a calm, steady presence, an unwavering positive outlook, and a selflessness that made everyone feel safe. He was patient, supportive, and endlessly proud of his children. His guidance, wisdom, and sense of humor shaped our lives in ways that will be felt forever. He taught the value of honesty, perseverance, and compassion—not just with words, but through how he lived every day.
Michael was passionate about playing guitar, traveling, training dogs, sailing, storytelling, and anything espresso-related, but more importantly, spending time with his family. He found joy in the simple moments: time spent together, shared meals, laughter, and meaningful conversations.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Velda Kay Chaisson Knab; his daughters, Tonya Chauvin (Robert Watson), Melissa Knab, Danielle Knab, and Christine Myers (Ryan Myers); his siblings, Timothy Knab, Edward Knab, William Knab, and Jeannie Knab Albaladejo; his grandchildren, Matthew, Lillian, Amelia, Isla, Brenin, Dakin, Traven, and Garen; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne Rae Herbes Knab; His father, James Vernon Knab; his sister, Mary Christine Knab; and his many beloved dogs.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the life he lived and the love he gave freely. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories we treasure, and the love that will never fade.
