On November 12, 2025, heaven gained a beloved soul. Sandra “Sandi” Elizabeth Steck was born on February 27, 1945 in London, England, the cherished daughter of Clarence and Lillian Terni. She was the sister of Jeanette Thornton (surviving), Susan Love (surviving), and Stephen Terni (preceded in death).
Sandi is survived by her devoted husband, Harry Steck, and her loving children: Katrina Crosby (Bobby), Nicole Joiner (Benjamin), and Adam Steck. She was a proud grandmother to Yecenia, Quincy, Olivia, Morgan, Tahlaijah, Kristina, Robin, Harmoni, Trevahn, Rowan, Logan, and London; as well as a great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews: Tracy, Dawn, Chris, Brandon, Brian, David, Deborah and their children.
After Sandi’s birth, her mother brought her to the United States to join her father, who was serving on active duty in the U.S. Army in St. Charles, Missouri; and later moved often as military life required. At just 17, Sandi enrolled in nursing school in Atlanta, Georgia, where she successfully earned her Registered Nurse license. Her nursing career took her to Miami, FL; El Paso, TX; and eventually Saginaw, TX—where she met the love of her life, Harry. They were married on July 1, 1978, beginning her journey as a devoted military wife.
Throughout Harry’s career, Sandi supported their family through multiple relocations, including moves to Florida, Germany, and Virginia, before eventually making Fort Walton Beach their retirement home. While stationed in Germany Sandi enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with her husband. She embraced the culture, often planning shopping trips to towns known for crystal and Christmas ornaments. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she never missed a chance to add to her cherished collection and attend the Christmas Markets for the Glühwein.
Sandi also enjoyed the tradition of Volksmarches, not so much for the exercise; but for the pretzels, bratwurst, and German wine waiting at the end of the walk. She was a constant presence for her children—attending school events, chaperoning field trips, and volunteering her time with organizations such as the swim team and Boy Scouts.
Sandi found renewed strength and joy in her faith at the Fort Walton Beach Church of Christ. There, she blossomed through service, especially in the nursery and Sunday School, where her deep love for babies shone brightly. She insisted on having her grandchildren on Saturday nights so they could attend Sunday school with her.
Sandi loved her family wholeheartedly—from her earliest days to her final breath. Her kindness, dedication, and gentle presence will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
