Pensacola, FL. – William John “Bill” Schutt, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, following an extended period of failing health.
Born, July 5, 1944, in Auburn, New York, he graduated from Jordan/Elbridge High School in 1963, immediately joining the United States Navy in the new Nuclear Power Program.
A proud Submariner, Bill served onboard several “Fast Attack” and “Boomer” submarines stationed up and down the East coast, completing several Polaris Patrols, culminating his 23-year Naval career as the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Command Master Chief, retiring in April 1986 as a Machinist Mate Master Chief, MMCM(SS) USN. After retiring from the U. S. Navy, Bill worked as a Ship’s Supervisor (Ship SUP) at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery ME, overseeing Boat refits and overhauls. Throughout his life and in retirement Bill enjoyed the comradery and social aspects of competitive sports and was active for years as a Baseball Umpire. He and his crew of close friends travelled all over New Hampshire supporting youth baseball. He strongly supported both his son’s many athletic events and rarely missed a game they competed in.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Henrietta Schutt and brother Stephen D. Schutt of Jordan NY. He is survived by his wife Karen of 60 years, and their two sons; Stephen (Rene’) of Magnolia TX and Brian (Kelly) of Dover NH; (7) grandchildren, Alexandra (Jason), Kelsy, Lauren (Blake), Katie (Brian), Mackenzie, Samantha and Taylor; (5) great-grandchildren; Margot, Maxwell, Caroline, Emma, Magnolia; his sister Susan Bard (Gary) of Elbridge NY and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
At his request, there are no plans for calling hours or wake. He will be returning home for a memorial service that will take place this upcoming Spring at the New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen NH. www.nhsvc.com
