David Chun tao Yao

3/29/2020

David Chun Tao Yao, 86, of Pensacola, Florida passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020.

Born in Shanghai, China, he was 2nd born son of Su Ming and Ai Ling Liu Yao.  In the earliest days of WWII, to avoid the occupation of Shanghai, his family fled, first to Taiwan and then to Hong Kong.  He was then sent (along with his brother Peter) to boarding school in Leeds, UK at the age of 11.  After graduating from Leeds, he was accepted at NC state University in Raleigh, NC where he obtained his degree in textile engineering. He took a job with Chemstrand (Monsanto) in Decatur AL in 1962 which is also where he met and married a young local girl, Roylene McCleskey. At the time of his passing, they had been married for 57 years.  They had 2 children, Robert Shawn Yao and Michael David Yao.David was fiercely proud of being an American and, in 1967, he earned/became a US citizen.

David took his young family back to Hong Kong in 1972 where he was reunited with his parents and siblings after having been away for over 30 years.  After spending 7 years in Hong Kong, he returned to Alabama and worked in Guntersville until 1984.  He commuted to St. Louis for a year and finally relocated to Pensacola in 1985 where he worked until retiring in 1996, and ultimately lived out the remainder of his days.

David was one of six children and was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, John and Peter.  His sisters, Cecilia and Mary survive his passing.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, David leaves behind his wife, Roylene; sons, Shawn (Kathy Ondrus Yao) and Michael (June Landrum) and four grandchildren – Cassandra, Ethan, Caitlyn and Katrina.

David had travelled the world and yet still loved to take cruises and see more of it.  Family meant everything to him and he never missed an opportunity to gather everyone and remind us to look after one another. He was one of the rarest of beings; David was truly a Good Man.  Honest, responsible, loving and wise.  He will be forever missed and all those who knew him will feel his absence in their lives.

Richard (Dick) Chesley Moore, 96, of Givens Estate Community, Asheville, NC, and recently of The Canopy on Berryhill in Pace, FL, died on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.  He was the son of Clarence Barlow and Georgia Sharp Moore and was born in Bluefield, WV in 1923.  The family soon moved to Marlinton, WV where Dick spent his formative years.

He was a graduate of Marlinton High School and West Virginia University where he received a degree in Forestry following service in WWII with the 901st Engineers in Europe.  He met his wife to be, Laura Fonner, of Middlebourne, WV at the University and they were married in 1950.

Dick was employed by the State of West Virginia as a County Forester, and later as Superintendent of Kumbrabow and Seneca State Forests.  In 1960, he transferred to the US Forest Service in Blacksburg, VA where he was District Ranger on the Jefferson National Forest.  In 1968 the family moved to Asheville, NC where he became Lands and Minerals Staff Officer for the National Forests in North Carolina. He and his staff were responsible for acquiring several thousands of acres of scenic land for public use and enjoyment.  One of his proudest accomplishments was acquisition of Max Patch, one of the last large privately held tracts crossed by the Appalachian Trail.  He was also responsible for acquiring numerous pristine tracts for the U.S. Forest Service which will be enjoyed by Americans for years to come.  He loved the outdoors and was a Golden Member of The Society of American Foresters.

Following retirement in 1985, he volunteered for the American Red Cross and at Central United Methodist Church, where he and his wife Laura were members since 1968.  He enjoyed "tinkering" with his 1931 Ford Roadster and taking it on drives around Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway.  He and Laura also enjoyed traveling thru the United States, Canada and Mexico in their Volkswagen Camper.  They also enjoyed several trips to Europe and Asia throughout their retirement years.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Laura and is survived by sons Stephen (Pamela) of Pensacola, FL and their children Tyler, Jackson and Weston; and Daniel (Joy) of Greensboro, NC.

A memorial service will be held for the immediate family at a later date.  The family suggests that, if they wish to memorialize Dick’s life, friends can make a charitable donation to Central United Methodist Church in Asheville, NC, or to the charity of their choice.

Picture
Peter Jennette, 63, was born on August 18, 1956 and passed away on March 22, 2020. He was the youngest of six children born to Arthur and Nina Jennette.

He was born and raised in Pensacola, and he graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School in the Class of 1974. Peter was well known for his 30-year career as a greens keeper at a variety of local golf courses, including Tiger Point, Pensacola Country Club and A.C. Read. Anyone who was close with Pete knew he was one of the most kind and caring individuals you could have ever met. He was strong, hard working, and consistent with quite the entrepreneurial spirit! If Pete gave you his word, he always followed through. He could light up a room and make anyone laugh with a joke or one of his many stories.

Peter’s greatest accomplishment in life was raising his three children and getting to know his two grandchildren. His love of sports and music was undeniable. Pete was a diehard Packers and Reds fan and loved rock, blues and country music with Kenny Chesney being his favorite artist.

He is survived by his son, Andrew Jennette; daughters, Amber McArthur and Haley Jennette and grandchildren, Kendall Gregg and Lily McArthur.
