Garland Ray Young, 91, of Pensacola, Florida passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 from complications of pneumonia.
Ray was born March 14, 1926, in Mishawaka, Indiana. After living in many different areas of the country, he settled in Pensacola, Florida in his retirement. He and his wife Dot called Pensacola home for 26 years. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Opal Coryell, Ray Young, and George “Barney” Smith; his loving first wife, Evelyn Irene Battles Young and his siblings, Gene Young and Betty Schafer. Ray is survived by his wife, Dot Wallace Young; his three children, Roger (Linda) Young, Karen Young and Robin Young (Dan) Roberts; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-children, TR Alexander and Shelley (Ken) Martin and five step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Phyllis Goff, Mary Hartbarger, Georgia Kreider, Jane Wood and George Smith, Jr. Ray was a kind, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was an honest, honorable businessman and leader who was well-respected by all with whom he worked. He was a World War II Veteran and was always humble about his service to this country. He had a life-long interest in learning new things, was an avid reader, was an extensive traveler, and was not afraid to explore and try to understand all points of view. He was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and Anytime Fitness in Pensacola. His presence will be missed by many. A memorial service and burial will take place in Indiana at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice. |
