Mr. John Roland Wingo of Cantonment, FL passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the age of 82.
John Roland Wingo was born to parents Clarence and Lucile Wingo on April 16, 1935 in Flat Top, Alabama. He grew up the eighth of ten children and attended Baker High School in Mobile, Alabama. He married Mildred Collins in 1953 and had three children; Dwight, Deborah and Sandra .They divorced in 1972. He joined the U.S. Marines in January, 1954 and served in Korea. Upon leaving the Marines, he was employed by Greyhound as a ticket agent and later became a driver for Greyhound. Mr. Wingo moved to Pensacola, FL in 1972 and married Janice Faye Rowell in 1973. The couple lived in the Pensacola area for 45 years. He was a mason and active member of the Milton, FL Ham Radio club and Five Flags Amateur Radio club. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lucile; sisters, Gladys and Irene and brothers Oliver, James, Ross, Martin, Ornell and Oscar Wingo. Mr. Wingo is survived by his wife, Janice Faye Wingo; his son, R. Dwight (Elizabeth) Wingo; his daughters, Deborah Wingo Cross, Donna Wingo (William) Hunter and Sandra Wingo Lofton and brother Roy Daniel (Sylvia) Wingo. Mr. Wingo has five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Extended family and dear to Mr. Wingo are the families of Jack Rowell, Jeannine Hallford and April Norsworthy. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Wingo at his home located at 2860 Hwy 297-A in Cantonment, Florida at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2018. All who knew John are invited to celebrate his life. |
