![]() Mary Ruth Gulsby, 93, of Cantonment, Florida passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019. Ruth was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1925 in Alva, Florida. Her family nickname was Shug because she was sweeter than sugar. She loved sports, especially basketball, and played center on her winning high school team. She was one of only two girls who earned the option of taking Physics in her senior year of high school where she made the highest grade in the class full of boys. She was a very strong, confident woman and started working straight out of high school while putting herself through secretarial office technical school. She had worked at St. Regis Paper Company and in civil service, where she was nicknamed Sunshine because of her happy, optimistic attitude and beautiful smile that could brighten up any place. Ruth was considered a walking miracle by all who knew of the many mostly rare illnesses that she managed to survive after doctors gave up and said she wouldn't make it to morning, starting when she was around 50 years old. Ruth loved life, music, (especially rock & roll), dancing, (especially tap dance), people and animals, especially dogs. She was loved by all her knew her and will be unmeasurably missed. Ruth will be privately interred at Alva Cemetery in Alva, Florida beside her beloved mother. |
