Obituary of Charlie Carlton Barrow

Charlie Carlton Barrow age 83 of Crestview, FL went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at North Okaloosa Medical Center. He was born in Covington County, Laurel Hill, Alabama on September 5, 1940 to James Grady “Red” Barrow and Ruby Lee Cogburn Barrow. He graduated from Escambia Farms School in Escambia Farms Community of Okaloosa County. He continued his education at Community College in Pensacola, FL then going on to Massey Draughon Business College in Montgomery, AL studying CPA. During his lifetime Charlie worked for the Chamber of Commerce Secretary in Florala, AL, Okaloosa Memorial as a clerk, Central Office of Hospital, Crestview Community Hospital as a clerk, security guard, and orderly, North Okaloosa Medical Center as an orderly, and finally at Winn Dixie as a bagger and stock clerk. Charlie also worked the farm land alongside his father and brother, he also enjoyed helping the Florida Boys or Dixie Echoes gospel band while in Pensacola, playing the piano and organ, and going to church.

Charlie is survived by his brother, James Garland Barrow and Karen of Baker, FL; sisters, Ruby Jewel Barrow Bell of Escambia Farms Community, Marcia Ann Barrow George Kelly of Crestview, FL; Aunt, Ramona Barrow; sister-in-law, Brenda Barrow Aughtman; numerous nephews, nieces including great and great-great nephews and nieces; cousins, extended family, and many friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, James Grady "Red" Barrow and Ruby Lee Cogburn Barrow; grandparents, Wayland Carlton Barrow, Annie Beatrice Boggan Barrow, Charlie Henry Cogburn and Lemar Sylvana Gatlin Cogburn; brother, Waymond Barrow; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Bell and Charles Kelly; sisters, Olean Rathel and Obera Batson; nephew, Dennis Steele; nieces, Teresa Bell Forsythe Huntley, Annette George Moore, and Stephenie Kelly Moore.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Blackman Community Center located at 7590 Hwy 189 Baker, FL 32531, gathering will begin at 10:00 AM with the service starting at 11:00 AM.  We will be sharing a meal afterwards, please feel free to bring a dish to share. Following the meal those that wish may join us at Wing Cemetery in Wing, AL to spread Charlie’s ashes over his parents’ grave.

The family would like to thank the staff of North Okaloosa Medical Center, Emerald Coast Hospice,and Family-Funeral & Cremation for taking care of Charlie.
